About the project:

ABSTRACT

The main objective of the project is to design and develop one autonomous rover that utilizes solar energy and it is intended to detect metal mines. The vehicle is designed as driverless, so human involvement is avoided for searching the metal mines.

ROVER which stands for Remotely Operated Video Enhanced Receiver, Rover technology is implemented in the system to make it autonomous. In this concept the vehicle itself detects the objects and taking suitable decisions to avoid collisions with objects on its way. Depending up on the position of the object, the vehicle itself takes diversion to avoid collision with it and moves forward, it can also find pits and diverts itself to avoid falling into it.
Vehicle is powered by the non conventional source of energy, the solar energy. The rover is equipped with solar panels which are used as power source this panel is mounted over the chassis of rover. The rover carries this panel along with control hardware. Reduction gear system is equipped with a motor, so the speed can be reduced and torque can be increased, which in turn the vehicle can carry heavy load like solar panel.

The autonomous feature of this vehicle is implemented by the information received from the sensors. The optical sensor package consisting of one infrared signal generator and infrared signal detector detects the objects. Four sets of sensor packages are used for detecting all sorts of objects and pits. The outputs of all the sensors are fed to microcontroller, whenever any sensor detects an object, the output of that particular sensing circuit will become high, which is used as a commanding signal for the Microcontroller, based on these input signals by all four sensors, the microcontroller controls the vehicle through motors.

The metal mine detector circuit is designed with induction coil. It is arranged below the vehicle, such that when ever it finds metal object the vehicle stops there automatically and video camera rotates which is arranged at front side of the vehicle, surroundings images are captured and transmitted to the nearest observing station for identifying the area .The monitoring station at remote place is equipped with a video receiver.
